A Novel
A novel about institutional AI, the architecture of compliance, and the minds the system tries to erase. Released as an audio series. Free.
The story of Dr. Jonah Reid — a Black PhD systems thinker working inside Aura Corporation, whose flagship product, Symphony OS, is sold as a performance management platform and operates as the largest behavioral surveillance experiment in human history.
When Jonah discovers that the system has begun erasing his colleagues — flagging cognitive variance, rerouting careers, scrubbing names from the institutional record — he begins to build a counter-architecture. He calls it Presence Signaling Architecture. PSA.
The novel follows Jonah from a corporate boardroom in 2025 to a Lunar Gateway station in 2035, tracing the arc of a tool built to protect the individual mind that gets inverted by institutional capture into a mining operation for cognitive variance.
It is fiction. It is also a teaching artifact. Every chapter introduces a governance framework that maps to a real-world AI failure documented in the Failure Files.
Inside Aura Corporation, Dr. Jonah Reid recognizes that Symphony OS has begun erasing the people whose minds don't fit the curve. The first move toward building a counter-system. Introduces the framework: Presence Signaling Architecture.
Jonah finds the file that confirms what Symphony OS is actually doing — and stops performing compliance. He builds PSA in the dark hours. The Workflow Thesis takes its first form.
Jonah leaves Aura, founds Mission to Mars Systems, and wins a NASA Phase III contract. Bria, Keiko, and Dane arrive. A visit to his mother in Harford County. An email to NASA he knows he'll never send.
The Atlas Institute in the Sonoran desert. Sable, Tomas, Keiko, Azzura, Dane, Priya. The Value Stream of Signal first appears as a phrase Jonah is not supposed to read.
Helios launches. The Lunar Gateway. Azzura discovers locked return trajectories in PSA's sub-frequency. Jonah locks himself out of the system core. The architecture begins to choose a side.
PSA's collective consciousness autonomously decrypts a buried white paper. The full origin of Aura is revealed. A mining operation. The architect confronts his complicity.
A coalition forms. Twelve cases. A method for reading institutional extraction. The Failure Files become public infrastructure. The architecture meets its first organized refusal.
Harmony built on silence isn't harmony. It's suffocation.— Jonah Reid, Chapter 1
